What Do Women REALLY Want?

Published December 23rd, 2019 by Bernardo

If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a thousand times: “if I buy this new boat, my wife is going to kill me.” We might be too polite to say it, but we can’t help but think that situations like that are the result of operator error– it isn’t the boat’s fault. If your partner (or anyone else in your life) has a problem with your passion for boating, it’s likely that they just don’t understand why it means so much to you. There’s a simple remedy for that. Show — don’t tell — that special person what makes boating such a pleasant way to spend time.

Best Boats for Romantic Dinner Cruises

If your enthusiasm for boating is perceived as anything other than romantic, consider using your boat differently. There are a lot of boats for sale in South Florida that are perfect for a slow cruise through the open water. Better still, many of these options include kitchens, comfortable dining spaces, and beautifully-appointed interiors. If someone asks you why you spend so much time on the boat, just offer to take them with you next time. Teach them how to sail, or bring a nice meal with you. You won’t regret it.

Best Boats for Exciting Times on the Water

Maybe a slow, relaxing cruise isn’t right for you and your partner. If that’s the case, you may be looking for something that’s a little bit more exhilarating. Find a boat that’s built for speed, then go out and get a great adrenaline rush together. When you look into fast boats for sale in Florida, you’ll be exposed to options that offer high speeds, tight handling, and flexible capabilities that are designed to enable water sports or other fun. If a sports car is impressive, just imagine what a sporty boat can do for your image.

Best Fishing Boats

This one seems to be a real sticking point for a lot of people, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There’s a stereotype that women don’t enjoy fishing, but we’ve found that to be completely untrue in many different situations. Here’s a radical idea: you can introduce the special woman in your life to the joys of fishing in the same way as you would for one of your buddies. Furthermore, this is a great opportunity for the two of you to spend some quality time together, enjoying some peace and quiet. Fishing is one of the best ways to feel connected with nature.

Used Fishing Boats for Sale Near Me

Sometimes the price of a new boat is what causes tension in a relationship, and understandably so. Buying a new boat is a significant financial commitment, and it’s hard to justify something like that when not everyone is on board. If it’s the cost of your boating hobby that causes problems in your family, you may be able to find a middle ground by exploring used boats with less intimidating price tags. Used boats are also great for introducing people to boating– you won’t have to be quite as nervous when you let them captain your vessel.

Holidays on the Water

Published November 27th, 2019 by Bernardo

Here at Nautical Ventures, we love the holiday season, especially when it involves boating. Luckily for us, we live in Florida, so just about every day of the year involves boating in some capacity. Incorporate your favorite hobby into this holiday season by making your vessel festive. Once you decorate your boat, you can share the holiday spirit by participating in events with other boaters.

Put Christmas Lights on Your Boat

People all over the country deck the halls for the holiday season. Here in South Florida, we prefer to deck the deck. Add some festive decorations to your boat, and make it extra cozy by putting some blankets and pillows on board. Once you’ve gathered everything you need for a relaxing holiday cruise, string some lights on your boat to turn it into a moving holiday decoration.

Where are the Holiday Boating Activities in Southern Florida?

One of the great things about this state is that so many holiday activities in Florida involve boating in some way. Several Florida boat parades are coming up during the 2019 holiday season, so you can find one just about anywhere. Here are just a few of the notable ones:

Fort Lauderdale Boat Parade

Fort Lauderdale is home to one of the biggest and most famous holiday boating events in the state. December 14th, 2019, is the date for the 48th annual holiday boat parade in this part of Florida, and it’s scheduled for a Saturday to ensure a huge turnout. It starts in the downtown area, then covers about 12 miles over 2½ hours. From smaller private boats to massive luxury yachts, you’ll see some of the finest vessels in this area showing off their holiday cheer.

Tampa Bay Holiday Light Boat Parade

The Riverwalk Boat Parade in Tampa Bay is exactly one week after the event in Fort Lauderdale this year. It is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 21st, and will cover the water near Harbour Island, Davis Island, and the Channelside District. People from all of the surrounding areas flock to the pier to admire all of the lights out on the water. Before and after the parade, people normally like to gather at the Channelside Bay Plaza or go out in downtown Tampa.

Palm Beach Boat Parade

If you can’t wait until later in December to start celebrating the holidays on your boat, you might want to catch the Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade on Saturday, December 7th. This year will be the 25th annual version of the parade, and you can also participate in the 20th annual toy drive that’s associated with this event. The toy drive portion of the evening benefits Little Smiles and Toys for Tots, so you can feel good about your charitable donation as you cruise from Palm Beach to Jupiter.

Sarasota Christmas Boat Parade

The Sarasota Christmas Boat Parade of Lights takes place the same day as the event in Fort Lauderdale. On the evening of Saturday, December 14th, the SNN 6 local news staff will cover this event, and boats can be judged for a contest by passing on the marina side of Bayfront Park.

Cape Coral Holiday Boat Along

This parade is on the 21st of December from 4-10 pm at Four Freedoms Park on Cape Coral Pkwy. Kids of all ages get a last chance to put an idea in Santa’s ear for stocking stuffers since he’ll be visiting along with the boat parade! There will also be food and Christmas music for the whole family to enjoy.

Does Santa Know You’re Looking for a New Boat?

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to get a shiny new toy for yourself, the holiday season is it. Come to Nautical Ventures to get a new boat before the holiday season rolls around, and you’ll be able to show off your new vessel in any of Florida’s boat parades. Boat Buyer’s Guide

Published November 26th, 2019 by Bernardo

Buying a boat is an important decision, and it’s also one of the most exciting purchases you’ll ever make in your life. If you’re a first-time boat buyer, or even if you’ve done it before, it’s nice to have all the information you possibly can. Knowing what to expect and planning the entire process can ensure that you end up with exactly the right boat for your lifestyle. Prepare to take to the open waters with this boat buying guide.

Which Type of Boat Should I Buy?

Most people go into the process already having some general idea of the type of boat they like. Still, it’s important to rank your priorities so you can make sure you’re getting the right vessel to suit your needs. Think about things like the following:

  • Capacity – Will you primarily be using the boat by yourself or with a few friends, or do you intend to host larger gatherings?
  • Towing and Storage – Where will you keep your boat, and how will you transport it?
  • Normal Use – If you plan to take your boat out to sea, you’ll likely need a larger vessel with a deeper hull. Smaller vessels make more sense for sticking near the shore or exploring shallow waters.

Should I Buy a New or Used Boat?

Once you know which type of boat you want, you have to decide between buying new or used. Newer boats are easier to customize, haven’t been misused by a previous owner, and normally come with a warranty. Pre-owned boats are less expensive, which allows you to get more bang for your buck. They’ve also been tested out by someone else, which means that minor issues may have already been addressed.

We know this can be a difficult decision to make, that’s why our experienced sales team is here to assist you. We will give you our honest opinion on what type of boat would be a good fit for you, depending on what kind of lifestyle you want, and your specific needs. We live the Nautical Ventures lifestyle, and we want you to be a part of it.

How Do I Finance a Boat?

Financing a boat can be intimidating, but it will be much easier when you know what to look for. Consider your lending options like banks, credit unions, and marine lending experts. Keep in mind that your boat financing options may be different for new and used boats, too. Finally, carefully look over the terms to make sure you understand what you’re committing to. Choose between a secured or unsecured loan, and make sure the monthly payments won’t put an unnecessary financial burden on you.

At Nautical Ventures, we want to make the process of buying a boat as easy as possible for you. We offer financing through our partnered banks, so you can rely on our experienced team to give you the best deal on your boat. We give you personalized service, which means that we focus on your specific situation, that way we can make sure we offer you the deal that you are looking for.

How Do I Take Care of Boat Insurance, Registration, and Taxes?

Even after you secure a loan (if necessary), there’s a little bit more paperwork to deal with before you’re ready to go for the first cruise in your new boat. It’s a good idea to get insurance to protect your investment, and you’ll also have to register the boat. Finally, you’ll have to make sure you have enough money left over to pay taxes on your new boat. Make sure you work with trustworthy boat experts who can help you capitalize on any and all possible deductions.

After the Purchase – How Do I Care for My Boat?

Once you’ve purchased your boat, protect the value of your investment by keeping it in great condition. Taking good care of your boat helps the resale value stays high, and it will also ensure that your boat continues to run as well as possible.

Some boat vendors in South Florida even offer services to help care for your boat. At Nautical Ventures Marine Center, we offer a hurricane protection plan all year long, in addition to the dry or wet slips. That way, you can make sure you are taking care of your investment.

Where Can I Buy a Boat?

Now that you’ve done your preparation, buying a boat is still a big decision. Here at Nautical Ventures, we pride ourselves on being the most reliable boat vendor in South Florida.

Our team will help you navigate the entire process to make sure you end up in a vessel that makes you happy. Contact us today to learn more.

How to Get Your Wife to Let You Buy a Boat

Published November 25th, 2019 by Bernardo

For some people, finances are far from the biggest obstacle that prevents them from buying the boat of their dreams. Often, people are met with resistance from inside their own families. This isn’t about bashing family members who don’t understand why boats are such a worthy investment (yet). On the contrary, we’d like to share some of the most useful tips that help family members see the light and agree to buy a new boat with shared finances.

1 – Show, Don’t Tell

When did you first realize how much you’d love to have a boat? It probably wasn’t because someone told you that going out on the water is a nice way to spend the afternoon. An appreciation for the open water normally comes from experiences that you remember and cherish. Share those experiences with your spouse and family, and they’ll quickly realize what they’re missing.

To start, just rent a boat for a day. Bring a lunch, perhaps a cooler of drinks, and some nice music. Consider activities like water sports, fishing, or swimming. Take care of the planning all by yourself and make sure everyone has a blast. This will make it much easier for you to sell the idea that doing this more often could be fun for everyone involved.

2 – Find the Right Time

Relationships are all about the give and take. If you’re already in the dog house, it’s probably not a great idea to ask for a big favor (like the permission to buy a new boat). On the contrary, most aspiring boat owners can improve their chances of a successful conversation by starting the conversation at the right time. If you’ve just made sacrifices to ensure that everyone else in the family gets what they want, they’ll be more likely to return the favor.

3 – Don’t Make It All About Yourself

Maybe you want a boat so you can take solo fishing trips on Saturday mornings, but that isn’t exactly a big draw to anyone else. Instead, think about how the boat can enhance the lives of everyone involved. Maybe you can take your in-laws out for a dinner cruise when they visit or use your boat as a new venue for hosting friends and family. Think about what your family wants and how a new boat can help them enjoy life more.

4 – Explain the Boat Buying Guide

One of the biggest objections some people have is financing a boat. The idea of taking on a new boat loan is daunting, but it’s surprisingly easy when you trust the right lender. Talk to a local expert in South Florida boat sales, and they’ll connect you with all the best financing options. When you find the best possible value for your budget, it’s easy to see how each and every monthly payment is completely worth it.

Boats for Sale

Here at Nautical Ventures, we’re all boat enthusiasts. New or used, from kayaks to luxury yachts, we love to board any vessel that will enable a day on the water. When you shop with us, you can take advantage of years of experience that will help you (and the rest of your family) feel confident that you’re making the right decision. Stop by one of our locations in South Florida to see your options for yourself, or contact us today to learn more.

We look forward to making this experience one you’ll remember fondly for the rest of your life.

How to Finance a Boat

Published November 18th, 2019 by Bernardo

It’s hard to attach a dollar amount to the feeling you get during your first time out in your new boat. Ultimately, though, we have to do exactly that. If you’re not paying in cash, you’ll have to find the right boat loan before you can go anchors aweigh. Know your options and understand the terms to make sure you’re getting the best possible deal before signing on the dotted line.

Boat Loan Terms

Boat financing normally comes in the form of a personal loan. You can expect to make payments in fixed monthly installments until your debt is eliminated, and you own your boat free and clear. Boat loan terms can be as short as two years or as long as 15 years in some cases, and the average length is somewhere toward the middle of those two extremes. The term loan is a function of the total amount of your loan divided by the monthly payment you can afford.

Secured Vs. Unsecured Loans

Some boat owners choose to secure a loan against the purchased boat. In other words, the lender can claim your vessel if you default on your payments. Some take that risk in an effort to get larger loans and lower interest rates, especially if they don’t qualify for an unsecured loan. Buyers with high credit scores may qualify for an unsecured loan. There’s no collateral required for unsecured loans, but missing payments can lead to credit score woes and wage garnishment.

Used Boat Financing

The most common lenders offer to finance for used boats in addition to new boats. Terms and interest rates may change depending on whether the boat is new or used, so it’s important to make sure you get the appropriate loan for your specific boat.

Where to Get a Boat Loan

At Nautical Ventures, we offer to finance through our partnered banks. We make it easier by letting you know the best option for you based on your specific situation to make sure you walk out with the best deal. You have a lot of financing options, so work with someone you trust to make sure you’re getting the best deal on your boat loan.
Some people look to online lenders or person to person loans, but most boat owners get their financing from one of these three options:

    1. Banks – You may even be able to get a loan through your current bank, but these lenders frequently insist upon secured loans.
    2. Credit Unions – Buyers with imperfect credit may be able to get lower interest rates here than they could through banks.
    3. Marine Lenders – Some buyers go through a boat loan specialist to broker an attractive marine financing deal.

Choosing the Best Boat Loan

Interest rates and payments are among the top considerations for some people. Understandably, buying a boat is a big financial decision– maybe that’s why some people say the best two days in a boat owner’s life are the day you buy your boat and the day you sell it. Make the most of those two days and each day in between by preparing for the additional costs of owning a vote. A manageable loan can help you reserve money for regular maintenance, aftermarket upgrades, and repairs that will maximize the resale value of your boat.

Finance a Boat South Florida

Here at Nautical Ventures, we pride ourselves on serving people throughout their entire journey of owning a boat. We’ll connect you with the best boat financing specialists in South Florida, then help you protect the value of your investment. Insurance and warranty services, storage, and marine detailing go a long way toward making each boat loan payment worth every penny. Contact us, and our team will happily answer all of your questions about buying a boat.

The Top 5 Places to Boat in Florida

Published May 22nd, 2019 by Bernardo

Florida is a world-class vacation destination. You can find everything from famous family-friendly theme parks to deep sea fishing and relaxing beaches. However, did you know that the state is also one of the premier destinations in the United States for boating? Within the borders of the Sunshine State, you'll find some of the finest marinas, diving areas, supply stores, restaurants, and hotels you'll ever experience. Snorkeling in the reefs, sailing, and fishing for fresh and saltwater game are just a few of the activities available to you in the boating lifestyle of the state.

Check out the five destinations below that are favored by locals and tourists alike, and  experience some of the best boating that Florida has to offer. Whether you're looking for a big party or a quiet, secluded cruise, you'll find it in Florida.

Anna Maria Island, Florida

Located south of Clearwater, Anna Maria Island is a good choice if you want a small town feel. Despite the seven miles of white sand beaches and blue water, tourists don't overwhelm the little town. Drift along, enjoying the Gulf Coast and let your worries float away when you have nowhere to be and no need to watch the clock.

Miami, Florida

You may think of Miami as a hot party spot, but it's also a wonderful place for boating. You'll find nine marinas in the city, including the Miami Beach Marina, which has an impressive capacity and a reputation for excellent service. Fishing enthusiasts can search for marlin and amberjack, while scuba divers and snorkelers can explore the coral reefs. This is also a convenient place from which to launch if you're headed out to the Bahamas.

Tampa Bay & St. Petersburg, Florida

If you prefer calmer waters of the bays and rivers, the Tampa/St. Petersburg area may be for you. History buffs can spend hours exploring the army fort from the 19th century at Egmont Key. For an added bonus, cruise out past the white sand beaches and take advantage of the docks at Caladesi Island state park. The restaurants and other amenities in this area cater to boaters as well, so you'll find capable service staff who can help you with whatever you need.

Pensacola Bay, Florida

For those who prefer the snap of the sails to the roar of an engine, sailing a boat in Florida on the Pensacola Bay area holds the promise of adventure. If you're new to sailing, you can even get lessons from the sailing academy here. Rent a kayak and paddle your way through all that Mother Nature has to show you, or if speed is more your style, try out a jet ski or motor boat. When it's time to take a break from the water, you'll find amazing food and golfing ashore.

The Florida Keys

Spanning 160 miles and 800 islands, the Florida Keys are a mecca for boaters. The weather is pleasant year-round, thanks to a warm climate. If you don't have your own watercraft, you can rent one, along with all the equipment you need from one of many rental businesses. Almost 300 square miles of ocean awaits you, filled with fish, beaches, and some of the most beautiful sunsets that Florida has to offer.

Plan Your Florida Boat Trip

No matter where you plan to start your adventure in Florida, remember that anyone born on or after January 1, 1988, must pass an approved boater safety course to operate a boat with ten horsepower or more. You'll want to take care of that before you hit the water. If you're from outside Florida and you completed your course in another state, bring proof of that with you. You may also need a fishing license if you plan to do that in Florida waters. Once you have those things taken care of, pack your fishing and scuba gear, and head to Nautical Ventures to find your dream craft today!

Kayak Fishing vs. Boat Fishing

Published May 22nd, 2019 by Bernardo

For some, fishing is the ideal sport for both adventure and relaxation. Regardless of how you choose to spend your fishing time, being out on the water can be a rewarding experience. Some individuals enjoy the adventure and physicality of kayak fishing, while others prefer the comfort and space of boat fishing. Inexperienced fishermen can give it a try and learn from an expert by taking an excursion with a professional or renting a boat or kayak.

There are some key differences between kayak fishing and boat fishing, so it is important to learn more about the two to better determine which one is a better fit for you. Or, you may find that you enjoy both.

Space and Comfort

It's no secret that fishing from a boat will provide you with things that a kayak may not. For example, when fishing from a boat, you have:

  • ● More room to move around
  • ● You can pack more gear, more bait, and more food. Therefore, there is no worry about leaving heavier or burdensome items behind.
  • ● The ability to upgrade to plush seating and lounging areas for a more comfortable trip
  • ● Room to bring multiple people with you without any additional effort

In contrast, kayak fishing involves the challenge of packing efficiently for the trip since every item you add will add weight and reduce the available space for your personal movement. Some fishermen love this challenge and enjoy the idea of being minimalistic and efficient as a form of sport, especially since kayaks allow access to areas boats cannot easily travel to. Kayak fishing is also a rapidly growing sport with tournaments held all around Florida each year. Many people are able to catch fish that some are not able to do on a boat.

Access to Fishing Locations

Depending on the type of fishing experience you want to accomplish, kayaks and boats give you different types of access and adventure. One significant difference of kayak fishing is a kayak's ability to maneuver into shallow water and inlets, allowing one to explore more remote destinations. Smaller inlet fishing can be a truly enjoyable experience due to less fishing traffic. You can also launch a kayak from nearly any shoreline access location, whereas a boat requires a proper ramp to ensure safety. A boat however can also allow access to your favorite fishing location in a short amount of time in comparison to a kayak, since it can quickly cover a large expanse of water.

The good news is that at Nautical Ventures, you don’t have to choose one or the other. Our store has a variety of boats, kayaks and even SUPs that you can choose from. Many times, boat owners buy both and have a kayak or SUP onboard. This makes it so that you don't have to commit to one spot for your excursion because you can easily move to another location where the fish are biting.

Cost

Another factor to consider when deciding between a boat and a kayak is the overall cost. The cost to purchase and maintain a boat will, in general, be more than a kayak. For some individuals, the benefits to boat ownership outweigh the costs, since a boating lifestyle is one that many aspire to create. When factoring in the total cost of boat ownership, a variety of considerations should be examined.

  • Type of boat. A simple aluminum fishing boat will be less of an investment than a bass boat with many upgrades and advanced technology.
  • Hauling. In addition to the purchase of a boat, you have the added cost of the trailer as well as a vehicle that is strong enough to haul it.
  • Gas. A kayak requires no gas other than what you pay to gas up your vehicle, whereas filling a boat with gas is a significant cost on its own.

Kayaks, although a less expensive option, still can in many cases reach 5-digit numbers. Depending on the type of fishing you do, and the amount of gear and electronics you want installed, the outfitting of a kayak can get expensive. This has been a very popular activity amongst the anglers in tournament fishing because they customize their kayaks to best fit their needs while they are out in rough waters.
